Handheld Extinguishers
( number of products: 4 )Handheld race car fire extinguishers from Sparco use AFFF foam, dry powder or Novec 1230 as the extinguishing agent. The bottles are made of steel or stainless steel and come with a mounting bracket for fitting inside the car. For a fixed installation, see our plumbed-in extinguisher systems.
Choosing a handheld extinguisher
The main difference between the extinguishers is the extinguishing agent. AFFF is a foam agent suited to fuel fires. Dry powder works on a wide range of fire types. Novec 1230 is a gaseous agent used as a Halon replacement. Homologation also differs: some extinguishers carry FIA homologation, while others comply with EN3, the European standard for portable fire extinguishers.

Can a handheld extinguisher replace a fire suppression system?
Not always. Many race series require a plumbed-in system, and a handheld unit is then carried in addition to it. Others accept a handheld extinguisher on its own, so check your series regulations before you buy.
