FIA or CIK: choosing a karting suit
Start with the homologation. Most suits in this category are homologated to an FIA or a CIK standard. The CIK is the FIA's international karting commission, which sets the homologation standards for karting clothing. OMP and Sparco offer suits with both types of homologation, while the homologated Alpinestars suits are FIA approved. Championships and clubs set their own clothing rules, so check the regulations of the series you race in before deciding between an FIA- and a CIK-homologated suit.
Many adult suits from OMP and Sparco come in a matching kids' version with the same FIA or CIK homologation, so a young driver can race in a suit built to the same standard as an adult's. Sparco also makes an FIA-homologated karting suit for women.
Rain suits, indoor suits and mechanics suits
Alpinestars makes karting rain suits for adults and kids. A rain suit is worn over the karting suit in wet sessions rather than instead of it. The Alpinestars indoor suits are designed for indoor tracks, where drivers often use the circuit's hired karts.
